The Pasinaya Open House Festival is a concluding event for the February Arts Month held annually at the CCP Grounds. The event has been home to crowds who are patriots to the nation’s art and culture. This event showcases different performances by natives, students, and CCP’s resident Companies – Ballet Philippines, Bayanihan, NAMCYA, Philippine Ballet Theatre, Madrigal Singers, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Tanghalang Pilipino, and UST Symphony Orchestra. A number of regional cultural groups all over the country also participated.
The Pasinaya 2012 was held last February 26, 2012. I was invited by my friends who volunteered for this remarkable event. The event was very lively! As expected, a lot of people showed up and this is in consideration that the entrance fee was not much of a rip off, pinning it down to P20 per head.
I got to see a lot of cultural groups who performed the entire day. It gave me a chance to document one of the most art-filled cultural events of the country.
The event highlighted the performance of “Tribu Lunok,” this year’s Champion of the recently concluded Dinagyang Festival in the province of Iloilo.
The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural festival in Iloilo City. Held on the fourth Sunday of January every year or right after the Sinulog Festival in Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held to honor both the Santo Niño and to celebrate the arrival of Malay settlers in Panay island and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.
The performance was breathtaking and beautiful, they indeed deserved to be the champion performers of the festival. Their costumes were well made and very colorful. You can see the passion in their eyes as they performed in front of hundreds of people. The audience, in response, cheered whenever the performers did things unexpectedly.
The day was entirely tiring considering that the heat of the sun was directly above us, but it was all worth it. The P20 entrance fee was not a waste after all. I’ll be there again at the next Pasinaya event in 2013, I hope to see you there too!
